Solar Power System

Overview

Installed solar power system overview

The goal was to build a mobile, self-sufficient energy platform. This control panel automatically harvests and distributes power throughout the 3-source, 3-battery system.

This page documents the system from concept to implementation, including the physical build, design logic, and supporting software.

Lessons Learned

Making it work can take much less time than making it pretty. I know of a handful of ways I could make it look even cleaner, but knowing when to stop is also importants

Future Work

There is a more optimal system setting that I've been using manually, and could automate with a single sense wire. When charging with deployed panels, Alt Branch should be turned OFF to prevent interrupting the deployed panels with energy from the battery. This can be redirected to the starter battery by switching Alt Charge to ON. By sensing the voltage on the deployed panels, this mode could be set automatically. At this time, the risk and reward don't outweigh relying on a skilled operator
