Intelligent Optical System

Apollo

Overview

As the lead electrical engineer at Intelligent Optical Systems, I developed a cutting-edge sensor system that uses a solid-state photomultiplier to detect small changes in light. This technology acts like a precise low-light, high-speed camera, capable of sensing things that traditional sensors cannot.

The system features 8 identical slots that can be configured to match any set of measurements needed. By changing the inexpensive optical film on the tip, a different reading can be taken, making the system flexible and versatile. Furthermore, the unique properties of optical sensing, such as EMF immunity and the ability to pass through transparent materials, allow for sensing in previously impossible ways.

During the development process, I encountered a packaging challenge, which I overcame by taking inspiration from past designs I have studied. I created a motherboard and card type system that slides into an extrusion for easy assembly and reconfiguration. This innovative approach made the system streamlined, compact, and easy to use.

Overall, this intelligent optical system represents a significant technological breakthrough in sensor technology. As the lead developer of the project, I am proud to have played a central role in its development and excited to see how it will revolutionize many industries.
